Entrepreneurial Streaks — Meet Leah Berdysz
“My experience at John Carroll has allowed me to develop skills that I use every day as an entrepreneur.” — Leah Berdysz, Empowered & Poised
JCU alum Leah Berdysz, founder of Empowered & Poised, combined her passion for helping others, her strong regional network, and lessons learned at John Carroll to change lives. “Essentially, what I do is educate and empower young girls on social, mental, and physical well-being,” says Leah.
Empowered & Poised offers workshops, after school programs, and in-school programs tailored to help girls engage in activities and important discussions with their peers.
Leah credits the Jesuit values instilled in her at JCU, on-campus organizations like Campus Ministry, an immersion trip to Nicaragua, and the entrepreneurship minor program for helping her grow as a woman and an entrepreneur. “[The entrepreneurship minor] really helped me enhance my creative thinking and presentation skills, which are useful in every field.”
Her advice to current and future JCU students:
“Make the most of your time at John Carroll by getting involved both inside and outside the walls of JCU. It will go by fast!”
Although her time at JCU went by fast, Leah is still an active part of the Blue Streaks community. She serves on the Women’s Entrepreneurship Advisory Council and helps the entrepreneurship team develop and execute a variety of events, such as the Dare to Dream Retreat for high school female entrepreneurs.
“As an alumna, the entrepreneurship department has continued to motivate and support me in my endeavors.”
